I’ve had the good fortune to be exposed to some amazing artists over the past few months, and I just wanted to show some appreciation for them in this very public domain. It’s just going to be a list but go and explore and find out a bit about them; Bill Evans, Esperanza Spalding, The Black Mighty Orchestra, Bonobo and Portico Quartet. I shall report back with new finds as they crop up, but these artists have made some incredible music and have had a big impact on me.
In other news, we’ve started rehearsals with the quartet (that being myself, Tom, Dave and Dave II [aka Smokes]) and it’s sounding tight and funky. The addition of Smokes has in fact given the band a slightly new feel, sound and vibe which is massively exciting. Hello old school funk. Hello sultry soul vibes. Hello tasty jazz licks. Smokes’ supreme piano skills are a very welcome addition to the band.
So there you go, my first entry- boom. Ball’s in your court, Dave, and I only serve aces. Hi- oh.
