So the stage was set, Tom Bradley had chilled us out, Hunting Bears kept everyone at a mellow and then we showed up.

In hindsight, I dare say we were a bit too funky considering the occasion but the crowd seemed to enjoy themselves, particularly the slower numbers. Loving You went down a storm, with a huge solo from Mr. Dawkins.

But I gotta say, yeah, Jamie was on form and yes, David was also on form…Chris wasn’t bad either. But Laura and Bridie (our fabulous new backing singers) were absolutely terrific. Harmonies were tight, dresses were black, it was everything I’d asked for. And as for Smokes. Well. That man. He’s not on sometimes. He was off the hook. Tom Bradley came up to me at the end of the night and said “‘I want your band” it’s so nice to hear that and I’m proud to say that I’ve got such a talented bunch of people behind me driving me on. Was great to see some LCM people down there and we’ll be looking out for you at the HiFi gig on 24th Feb. I’ll link you the review here… http://www.leedsmusicscene.net/article/12290/ and tell you the best bits…..now.

“Shaping up as every bit the professional act they sound, Tom has employed dual female backing singers and a tight rhythm section. Polished, well groomed and smooth as hell; he’s is a supplier of shimmering funk rock akin to crying guitar styles of Carlos Santana and John Mayer.”

“There’s really little here to give Tom away as an unsigned act. Comfortable and cool, he orchestrates a set of expert tunes which are sure to win over a few amongst tonight’s crowd. A very talented band….”

It’s all good! Check out Nigel Passey by the way, looks like he could be the next big acoustic act around. Great voice. In other news we were in the studio on Saturday with Steve and Luke which, as per usual, was full of mocking, laughter, the odd stress from me and some tasteful playing from all. We did Loving You, which Smokes smashed up, and we recorded an extended outtro (to self indulge…for a change, eh Steve?) with a humongous effort from Jamie. Dave was smooth on Loving You and drove Move A Little in to the ground, got a good feeling about both pieces. It was nice to get the Strat out after a sustained absence with me having the Tele, should get back into the Strat, it’s cool, and not a Gibson Luke/Steve!

Anyway, I’ll shut up and leave you to it because sometimes, only sometimes mind, I ramble on. Now there’s a good idea for a song….don’t think anyone’s done that before…

See You Around
