For those of you that don’t know, and even for those of you that do, we, being the Tom Gee Band (TGB), are releasing our 5 track EP, Better Things to Do, on 14 June 2013 and to coincide with its release we are having a bit of a shindig at the HiFi Club in Leeds. I thought that I’d take the opportunity to explain a little about the EPs creation, from writing the songs to the recording process, and also to explain to you why we would all really appreciate your support at the HiFi gig. A little over a year ago Tom brought two new songs to the table. In lieu of proper names and various other...

Wow, just back in from a crazy day of mixing and finishing off the tunes. 5 tracks finished and sent off to be mastered by Streaky! Tracklist is looking like this... 1. Better Things to Do 2. Shake 3. Little Smile 4. You Got Me 5. Listen to Yourself This could (and probably will) change. No idea what we're calling it yet. For now, we're going to keep our heads down, get the masters done, get a launch date sorted and get these new tunes out there for everyone to hear. Massive thanks to Mr. Dan Mizen down at Active Audio Studios in Harrogate. He's a monster, fantastic production and we love...

It's all been a bit quiet recently, or so it would seem. Blog posts disappeared, facebook posts were less often, even tweets have taken a backseat. The good news is that we've been busy. Brand spanking new website thanks to our lovely friends at Puddle Digital, a new backing singer in the shape of Caterina Comeglio and some lovely new tunes from Active Audio Studios in Harrogate. We've recorded 2 songs so far; Better Things to Do and Shake. 3 more are on the way in the shape of Little Smile, You Got Me and Listen to Yourself. Nothing much to add except that we're very excited to be sharing...

Waiting – Should this be the new England Euro 2012 song?

Waiting – Should this be the new England Euro 2012 song?

As England make a steady if somewhat understated start to the European championships a quiet confidence seems to grow. Nobody is getting carried away and for the first time in decades there are no triumphant boasts of ‘The Golden Generation’. Expectations are low and press coverage, for once, is understated. Yet there seems to be a growing wave of tempered optimism amongst the fans. Phrases such as steady, compact, organised and workman-like abound. Maybe after 46 years the England Euro 2012 song should have no lions in the verses. How’s this for a lyric? – “I’m not waiting anymore.” So...

Tom Gee Band leave an impression on Keighley

Tom Gee Band leave an impression on Keighley

The band had quite a week during the lead up to the latest gig. Drummer, David Sudall, flew back from Norway to be there [No Way!] whilst trumpet player Joe Roughton had his final recital for his degree course at Leeds College of Music. So a hectic build up would give way to a fairly trouble-free night, surely? Well no – when the guys arrived in plenty of time to set up and sound-check they found the back door of the band-van refused to open. With all the kit inside and only one door into the cargo section drastic action was needed. It was however nothing that a lump-hammer and power drill couldn’t...

100 Club – London

So we've been pretty busy since the last post - so I thought I'd put you all in the picture of what's been going on... The biggest news we've got is that we're doing a gig in the capital on SATURDAY 5th May!! Its kind of a big deal - we're being put on by FeedMe Music - who are an agency...so that means - if this gig goes well - then we should get even more gigs out of it!! But...we need a good crowd... So what's the deal? How do I get tickets? How much is it? It's a bit expensive to go all the way to London for a gig!... Well - we've got a coach going down - and we have a couple of spare seats...

Thad: What’s In A Name??

The more vigilant amongst you might have noticed that there’s been some changes happening with the Tom Gee Band. Not first the fact that we’ve multiplied to form an 8-piece suite, but whilst making this transition from an awesome four-sum, we also have decided to do a bit of ‘re-branding’. You see, although originally being called just ‘Tom Gee’ was never a contentious issue for any of us in the band, it seemed more of a problem for venues and new listeners to get a grasp of. We were being billed on acoustic sets - thinking Tom Gee was just one person...which although may make perfect...

Jim Jamm: Revolutionary extraordinaire. . . . or not.

  • date
  • 02/02/2012

It’s all too easy for bands to get behind a computer and declare that they are riding on the crest of some musical revolution found in their garage. And perhaps I am a hypocrite for coming online with the sole purpose of telling you why I love my band. I’ll live with that. However, there is a difference.  The difference is we are not trying to be revolutionaries. We are not interested in fusing musical antonyms together; there will be no punk merged with early musik no opera distorted with grime. Who wants that? Not us. No, we exist as a musical entity with the collective mindset of creating...
